Identity Federation to meet K12 needs Netcast Archive
Identity or trust federation among K12 education members within a state or region has substantial potential benefits for students, schools, and information providers. Universities can leverage their experience managing identities within InCommon to facilitate the deployment of such federations, but it has become clear that more than a simple extension of existing higher ed federation is needed. A joint task force of K12, higher education, and networking organizations has been working to articulate the needs for such federation and develop the tools that will facilitate them. This presentation by members of the joint task force will describe these efforts, focusing on a primer on K12 federation developed by the task force.
Looking ahead, presenters will also describe some initial responses to the task force's work from schools, initiatives to form state and regional education trust federations, and future plans to facilitate and provide tools for K12 federations.
