Openflow with OSCARS: Bridging the gap between campus, data centers and the WAN Netcast Archive
OSCARS has been very successful in providing multi-domain, automated scheduling, reservation and traffic engineering capability over the WAN for research and engineering networks. Even though the capability has been leveraged extensively for science networking, there exists an impedance mismatch between the campus networks, HPC data centers and the R&E networks that requires manual intervention limiting end-to-end network control. Using the virtualization and flow management capabilities of Openflow, there exists a way to bridge this gap with adequate policy control within each domain. This talk will discuss the gaps in the campus and the WAN, and demonstrate the capability and opportunities available through integration of Openflow capabilities with OSCARS in creating an end-to-end network virtualization.
