HathiTrust - Collaborative Campus Networking Experiences in support of a large-scale content digitalization project Netcast Archive
The University of Michigan and Indiana University have recently been involved in some interesting work in support of the HathiTrust project. The HathiTrust makes the digitized collections of some of the nation's great research libraries available for all. HathiTrust was initially conceived as a collaboration of the thirteen universities of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, the University of California system, and the University of Virginia to establish a repository for those universities to archive and share their digitized collections. This is a multi-institutional effort that may grow to a third node. The University of Michigan (Library) just purchased a large storage system and stuck the peer node at IU. The traffic generated over 80 TBytes of data from the University of Michigan to Indiana University over the network. As a result, the initial traffic was competing with other campus users at IU which caused you guys to upgrade the campus link. This will be an informal panel session to talk about the project design, the system design, measurement and monitoring, and associated campus networking collaboration and challenges.
