Video Convergence: Reconciling "Advanced" with "Interoperable" Netcast Archive
Video communications technologies face a consistent challenge regarding interoperability. Individual vendors often have little motivation (or even have disincentive) to building interoperable solutions, causing the creation of islands. The research and education community is somewhat unique in the importance of inter-organizational collaboration, which makes avoiding islands all the more important. And yet, we recognize that to advance, video technologies must implement new features or approaches that are incompatible with existing solutions. In this presentation, Internet2 will present their experiences trying to encourage and deploy advanced video services while promoting and maintaining interoperability.
