ORG Case Western Reserve University Title Chief IT Architect BIO Jeffrey Gumpf is the Chief Information Technology Architect at Case Western Reserve University and has been in this role since 2007. Prior to this he was Director of Technology Infrastructure having responsibility for networks, servers, storage and middleware. He has been in central IT at CWRU for 34+ years. As part of his role as chief IT architect, he has worked with IT management, staff and with various University members to develop a strategy for moving IT services to the cloud. Part of this strategy was working with other IT architects to devise a set of architectural principles that includes a "cloud first" requirement for any new or upgraded system. Additionally, plans were developed to move existing IT systems to the cloud and eventually retire the University's data centers. Significant progress has been made in moving many central IT services to the cloud including ERP (financials, human resources, and student systems), email, calendaring, LMS, classroom recording, server backup, campus web content, and others. The process is continuing with the goal of moving most IT systems out of the campus data centers and into the cloud. Jeff has also been engaged with the Internet2 Net+ effort, participating in the cloud services working group to provide input to the Internet2 cloud services effort.
