Alan Wolf

ORG University of Wisconsin - Madison Title Assistant CIO for Advanced Computing Infrastructure BIO Alan Wolf is the Assistant CIO for Advanced Computing Infrastructure in the Office of The Vice Provost for Information Technology and a senior consultant in the Division of Information Technology and the Institute for Biology Education at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. His role is to collaborate with campus leaders and the campus research community to set strategic initiatives and vision for research cyberinfrastructure at UW-Madison and forge key affiliations and collaborations both on campus and at a national level. This includes setting strategic direction for research cyberinfrastructure that involves merging policy, governance, technology, data, and human resources. He facilitates collaborations and referrals so people can participate in physical and virtual communities that support peer-to-peer collaboration and new modes of research. His current projects include developing a campus community HPC cluster, establishing a campus science DMZ, launching a campus electronic laboratory notebook service, and he is the PI for the NSF awards focusing on studying faculty and student use of technology in higher education. Previous to this role, Alan directed the UW Digital Media Center that provides technology support for research and instruction. His roles included monitoring emerging technologies, helping faculty implement instructional and research technologies in the classroom, and creating a campus 3D scanning and printing service. He served as a faculty liaison to UW-Madison'™s institutional repository. He has been the lead instructor in a graduate course on effective teaching with technology. Alan received his Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Michigan with concentrations on bioacoustics and phylogenetics of frogs.
