Dr. Heiko Spallek is Assistant Professor, Center for Dental Informatics at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Pittsburgh. In addition, he is affiliated faculty at the Center for Biomedical Informatics. He holds a DMD and a Dr. med. dent. (PhD equivalent) from the Humboldt University Berlin (Charité). In 2000, he graduated from Temple's Master of Science in Business Administration program with a concentration in Computer and Information Science at the Fox School of Business and Management ("Techno MS").
Dr. Spallek is an expert on the establishment and design of World Wide Web resources for medical and dental departments and national and international societies. In addition to working with electronic publishers, Dr. Spallek also lectures frequently at national and international meetings and has published in several journals on subjects related to the Internet and scientific data exchange.
Dr. Spallek is also an expert in the application of Internet-based technologies to dental education, research, and practice. He teaches a predoctoral course on computer applications in dentistry which prepares the dental graduates for their use of information technology in their professional life. In addition, he lectures in Pitt's NIDR/NLM-funded postgraduate training program in Dental Informatics.
