ORG University of Southhampton Title BIO Dr Tim Chown received a PhD in computer vision systems in 1991 from the University of Southampton, where he is currently working within the Department of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS). Ee leads the IPv6 activity in the Pervasive Computing and Networks (PCaN) Group within the Department. The PCaN group has had native IPv6 connectivity to the world-wide 6bone network since July 1997. Southampton was a partner on the European 6INIT IPv6 deployment project, and now the wireless IPv6 follow-up project 6WINIT. Dr Chown led the Bermuda 2 UK academic IPv6 deployment pilot, and is leader of the IPv6 WG activity on the European GEANT project as well as the UK IPv6 academic pilot service. Most recently Dr Chown led Southampton's entry to the European Fifth Framework IPv6 research and deployment projects, 6NET and Euro6IX. With a combined project investment of over 30M Euros, these projects will play an important role in paving the way for future research and commercial IPv6 services in Europe.
