Bridging OIDC and SAML: Multi-Protocol Proxies for Shibboleth and SimpleSAMLphp
Time 12/11/19 10:20AM-11:10AM
Room Oak Alley (4th)
Session Abstract
OpenID Connect, OIDC, is quickly gaining momentum in the R&E community
as an authentication protocol. Yet many organizations are a long way
from letting go of SAML. Is your organization one that’s not quite ready
to fully embrace OIDC, but you’re looking for a place to start? Come to
this session to learn how current and future work for both Shibboleth
and SimpleSAMLphp can help to connect SAML-based and OIDC-based
entities. The Big Ten Academic Alliance will show the results of a
project completed with Cirrus Identity to add OIDC client support to
SimpleSAMLphp, allowing SAML-based SPs to accept authentications from
OIDC providers like Google. Specialists from CSC will talk about Finnish
proxy services, based on Shibboleth and allowing bi-directional proxying
between OIDC and SAML. Presenters will also talk about future plans for
OIDC and proxying in SimpleSAMLphp and Shibboleth.
