Session Abstract
Challenged by today's economy and the operational costs of High Performance Computing (HPC) which includes computing, storage, software, HPC expertise and networking resources. UNLV's Supercomputing Institute (NSI), in collaboration with Wasabi Technologies, Altair Engineering, and Switch provides a unique environment that supports a flexible Cloud and Hybrid Computing environment. An overarching priority is to give researchers and other big users the power to optimize codes and decrease the turnaround time on complex computational solutions, thus reducing overall costs. This session will focus on the emerging “technology environment” created by leveraging and coalescing resources and diverse expertise brought forth by this new public-private collaboration. As a specific example, this unique public-private collaboration currently plays a critical role in neurodegeneration and translational neuroscience research in association with the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. It accomplishes this by fusing brain imaging, neuropsychological and behavioral studies along with the diagnostic genomic exome sequencing models to increase our knowledge of dementia-related and age-associated degenerative disorders associated with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Other specific examples will be discussed in this presentation.
