Self Service Debugging at the University of Arizona
Time 12/10/19 10:40AM-11:00AM
Wanting to both empower users and improve the general quality of tickets, we developed a website that provides automated information on users' connections that is accessible to a layperson, and helpful for other IT professionals.
In order to do this, we leveraged our pre-existing sources of this data, including SolarWinds for wired connections, and Infoblox for wireless connections. After that, we used the University's existing SSO resources to both protect the page and collect the user's account name.
This idea comes from websites like https://www.fastly-debug.com/ or
https://dropbox-debug.com/. We created the site to be a source of information for
a campus network, rather than for a CDN network.
We hope to tell the story of the process of developing and deploying our application to AWS on ECS as a docker image and describe the benefits it has brought to campus.
