Pacific Research Platform and CENIC - Pacific Wave Advanced Networking Initiatives
Time 12/10/19 10:20AM-11:10AM
Room Grand Chenier (5th)
Session Abstract
The Pacific Research Platform (PRP) is a partnership of more than 50 institutions, led by researchers at UC San Diego and UC Berkeley and includes the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, and multiple research universities in the US and around the world. The PRP builds upon Pacific Wave’s connectivity and CENIC’s CalREN networks to create a seamless research platform that encourages collaboration on a broad range of data-intensive fields and projects.
CENIC and Pacific Wave enable science-driven, high-capacity, data-centric projects like the PRP, providing researchers with a high-speed backplane and connectivity to their colleagues at R&E institutions within the region, across the nation, and internationally. The CENIC community comprises universities, colleges, public schools and libraries, scientific organizations, cultural and performing arts institutions, university medical centers, as well as California cities. Pacific Wave was deployed in 2004 as a geographically distributed peering facility with Open Exchange Points along the US West Coast and currently serves over 30 countries.
