Radically Decentralized IT Audit Response: A How-to Until Next Time
Time 12/12/19 11:20AM-12:10PM

Session Abstract
The Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is one of 16 independent schools sharing a common mission. Within the school there are six distinct information technology delivery organizations ranging from a half-time technician to a sixteen person team supporting the central school mission. It's a challenging environment in which to to create consistency, continuity, and quality. Then, the North Carolina Office of State Audit came calling. Following an audit of the central campus IT organization and selected professional schools, each individual school, department, division, or unit was directed to prepare for a pending audit of their organization. This talk will present the initial audit findings, how the campus prepared its response, the Gillings School approach to audit in a radically decentralized environment, and the tools and technologies used to support audit activities. Attendees aren't expected to have an understanding of the audit process or the technologies and policies described, and should come away with a foundation to build their response on should audit "happen" to them. This talk is not heavily technical from a tools and toys perspective but is deeply instructional in how to collaborate in policy, practice, and the profession to deliver a successful response to a challenging activity.
