Stalking The Wily TCP Retransmission
Time 12/12/19 10:20AM-10:40AM
In the practice of research network performance optimization, there seems to be a tendency to consider TCP retransmissions as related to "packet loss", having to do with network links and interfaces. Experiences in evaluating methods of shipping astronomy data from DTNs in Hawaii to various far-away endpoints have shown that many things besides the network play a role in data movement, and data is delivered to apps and storage, rather than to interfaces. This talk is about detail management and instrumentation for the whole signal chain, and why shorter paths aren't necessarily easier. Based on work done for IRNC:PIREN "Astroflows" and also for the Netsage Project.
