Telephony Security: News From the Trenches
Time 12/11/19 10:20AM-11:10AM
Room Nottoway (4th)
Security of telephone systems isn’t often at the top of a CISO or CIO’s agenda. With robocalls, spoofed numbers, IRS scams, and Rachel “from card services,” simple telephone calls represent a real risk to our organizations.
We’ve done a half-decent job at training our users to be suspicious of unsolicited email, but how will they act when someone calls them with what appears to be a familiar phone number? What if someone spoofs your number and calls your users pretending to be an executive requesting payroll information?
This talk will review the landscape- how we got here, why things are so bad, and what tools are available to help protect our users. Whether your service is on-prem or hosted, self-managed or outsourced, you’ll learn about new technology that is being implemented to address some of the current threats. STIR/SHAKEN is a emerging technology that will help, but we’ll also discuss things you can do today to protect yourself.
