Session Abstract

Cloud computing has revolutionized enterprise computing over the past decade and has the potential to provide similar impact for campus-based scientific workloads. This session will explore the growth in cloud services for scientific research and the effectiveness of commercial cloud platforms and services to support applications critical to the academic research community; discuss NSF support of cyberinfrastructure initiatives, including the CC* program and those involving cloud resources; present an update on Internet2's NSF-funded Exploring Clouds for Acceleration of Science (E-CAS) initiative; and offer examples of Internet2 research engagement activities to foster and enhance campus-based research activities and collaboration.
