Time 10/18/18 11:20AM-11:50AM

Room Pacifica Ballroom 8/9

Session Abstract

This session focuses on technical and professional development aspects of engaging early- and mid-career women in the annual development of SCinet, the network infrastructure built each year to support the Supercomputing Conference. The session will provide an overview of the different SCinet teams tasked with building and supporting the conference infrastructure. Participants in the NSF- and DoE-funded Women in IT Networking at SC (WINS) program will discuss the technical work performed during SC17 and provide context for how the technical and professional growth activities fit strategically within their home organizations. Presentations by the panelists will be followed by a question and answer session covering:

  • Exposure to new technologies and expert on-the-job training from other security and network professionals

  • Opportunities for SCinet volunteers to expand their professional networks

  • The overall impact the WINS program has had on expanding diversity within the information security and network security community.
