Democratizing Network Reservations Through Application-aware Orchestration
Time 10/18/18 12:00PM-12:10PM
Session Abstract
The provisioning of network reservations in Research & Education (R&E) networks can currently only be performed by network operators. Moreover, for a network reservation that spans multiple administrative domains, network operators have to reach agreement on a reservation that fulfills the requirements of the original request. As a result, a network reservation request may take from days to weeks to be provisioned. To improve provisioning times and the success rate of multidomain network reservations, we have designed and implemented an application-aware orchestration framework for multidomain R&E network reservation. This framework leverages the latest developments in software-defined networking for automated network provisioning to democratize access to network reservation through novel APIs. In this session we will present the design, implementation, and evaluation of our application-aware orchestration framework.
