Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are more than just trending topics. AI and related technologies now represent a multi-billion dollar industry with every major IT player quickly finding ways of embedding AI within their technologies and services. Computing hardware is speciating with new forms of computing including ASICs, FPGAs, hardware accelerators and neuromorphic chips, that are rising to meet the computational challenges within AI. Artificial neural networks are undergoing a renaissance that is remaking the cloud as we know it.

The rise of massive cloud infrastructures and exploding growth in IoT devices means that how AI will actually be deployed is a complex and multi-faceted problem that will affect not just society as a whole, but more importantly, universities, students and researchers. This session is a panel of experts from two top cloud providers, Google and Microsoft and one of the most prominent university researchers in the areas of innovation, discovery and commercialization of new technologies. Panelists will share their visions (or nightmares) for the future and explore how the union of AI and IoT will affect computing and networking in university research, commercialization and administration.
