Building an IAM Program at Portland State University
Time 05/09/18 10:45AM-11:45AM
Room Pacific 14-15
Session Abstract
In 2013, Portland State had one Identity and Access Management (IAM) administrator and a weekly meeting of interested folks to coordinate the many issues that came up. Over the last 4 years we have built out our IAM environment into an ecosystem of interrelated products and robust integrations consisting of open source and commercial products. We now have a team of 4 under the guidance of our Associate Director, who actively develop solutions to the larger issues instead of just responding to individual issues.
Learn about:
- Drivers for creating a full IAM team
- Scope of work/influence including service accounts, privileged accounts, Single Sign-On, and Multifactor Authentication
- Interactions between IAM team and system administrators, ERP team, and security team
- Problems we encountered along the way
- Current state of PSU IAM
- Future roadmap for PSU IAM, including move towards identity first architecture
