Session Abstract

This session will discuss the technical challenges faced and successes realized by the Pacific Research Platform (PRP) during its first two years of activities, explore the emerging near-term and longer-term PRP capabilities, plans for expansion, as well as an invitation to collaborate as we explore scaling from a regional network to national and international models:

PRPv1 -- Extending the ESnet Science DMZ model to a regional scale

Science Engagement -- Socio-technical engineering among science, network, and IT

Case Studies -- from the five scientific domains forming the initial scope of the PRP
o Particle Physics
o Astronomy and Astrophysics
o Biomedical Sciences
o Earth Sciences
o Computer Sciences (Visualization, Virtual Reality, Machine Learning)

PRPv2 -- A testbed incorporating security, IPv6, SDN/SDX, cooperating research groups

Considerations -- scaling to national and international models
