Regional Data DMZ in Support of Distributed Applications in Pennsylvania and New Jersey

Time 10/17/17 02:50PM-03:20PM

Room Grand Ballroom A

Session Abstract

This session will provide information regarding the establishment of a Regional Data DMZ in the Pennsylvania and New Jersey region in support of data intensive distributed applications. Initially, this network infrastructure, referred to as a Data DMZ, will implement high-bandwidth network connectivity between the regional networks, KINBER and NJEdge as well as individual organizations located in Pennsylvania and New Jersey toward the long term goal of connecting this regional infrastructure to the broader community via regional and national network connections, including Internet2. The initial application to utilize this infrastructure is the Virtual Data Collaboratory (VDC), a NSF funded DIBBS project with the goal of establishing state of the art data-intensive computing solutions, storage, and networking, federated with an innovative data services layer. This session will discuss the initial components of the Data DMZ, including the campus science DMZs, the use of FIONAs as data transfer nodes, integration within the regional network environment, initial support for the VDC as well as connections to other initiatives such as the Pacific Research Platform and the National Research Platform.
