OpenID Connect, Multilateral Federation, and Use in Research & Education

Time 09/27/16 09:00AM-09:50AM

Room Bayfront B

Session Abstract

This session is a panel discussion covering the use of OpenID Connect as an emerging protocol for use in delegated access to educational and research institutions' APIs, and its emerging use in the context of identity federations. OpenID Connect is a relatively new standard, maintained by the OpenID Foundation, which is designed to enable secure access to applications and services using modern web technologies such as REST and JSON. It is attractive for use in APIs due to the availability of protocol flows that consider applications such as mobile apps as first order clients. We'll hear how the participants on the panel are using this, and related, technologies and what they have learned from their real-world experiences with it. We'll also hear about developments in the use of the technology in a federated context.
