Guy Roberts

ORG G√ČANT Title Network Architect BIO

Guy Roberts joined DANTE (now GÉANT) in 2006 and has contributed to the design of several generations of the GÉANT network.  In his current role as Senior Transport Network Architect in the office of the CTO, Guy is responsible for the introduction of new technology into the transport layers of the network.  Through his role as research coordinator for the GN4 project, he is helping foster network research in the community and is driving the integration this innovation into the next generation of network services.  Guy is also co-chair of the Network Service Interface working group in the Open Grid Forum.

Guy received his BEng degree from RMIT University in Australia and his PhD in photonics from the University of Cambridge in 2006.  His PhD research into semiconductor optical amplifier based optical switching was conducted in collaboration with Intel Research Cambridge.  He began his career in Australia in Telstra’s SDH transmission project group where he helped introduce SDH technology into their network.  In 1995 he moved to Fujitsu where he contributed to the development of Fujitsu’s FSX multiservice access platform and FDX DSLAM product.
