Do I Really Need Another Account? External Identities for Campus Applications

Time 10/07/15 10:20AM-11:10AM

Room Room 25-C

Session Abstract

Campuses are increasingly turning to external (or social) identities as an alternative to "guest" accounts for people who do not have institutional identities, like parents, alumni, external researchers, and continuing education students. This session will review key
considerations for campuses when deciding why, when, and how to integrate such identities. InCommon's External Identities Working Group, representing participants from universities and vendors worldwide, will present the findings of its final report, including the trustworthiness of external identities, architectural patterns for integrating external identities in various use cases, and criteria for evaluating external identity providers. You'll also hear campus case studies about efforts to incorporate external and self-managed identities into the campus identity management ecosystem.
