ORCIDs Showing Up on the Campus Commons: What Might It Mean?
Time 10/07/15 01:55PM-02:20PM
Room Room 26-A
Session Abstract
Providers of researcher identifiers and associated services have been proliferating over the last decade or more. Recently ORCID.org seems to be the most widely known and discussed across many of our institutions. As more campuses start down the adoption path, what can we learn from each other about what roles these identifiers are playing in which systems? This panel will bring together individuals playing an active role in evaluating, planning for, deploying and leveraging researcher IDs, with a special focus on ORCID identifiers. We will include a technical expert from orcid.org on the panel as well. Questions to be addressed include, but are not limited to: Who are the parties that are (or should be) involved? What do we consider to be appropriate (and inappropriate) uses of such identifiers? What information is linked (or linkable) to them and who carries which kinds of linked information? How do we create, access and exchange the identifiers and the linked information? Panelists will also address questions raised by attendees.
