InCommon Update: eduGAIN and Interoperability

Time 10/07/15 03:30PM-04:20PM

Room Room 26-A

Session Abstract

The InCommon Federation is growing and changing. This session will provide updates from two areas of active work which will enable needed growth: eduGAIN and the Federation Interoperability Working Group.

The TAC-sponsored Federation Interoperability Working Group is drafting documentation to help SAML implementers and deployers work well in the context of InCommon. The first work product of the group is focused on developing a SAML implementation profile which will allow vendors of SAML software to implement features needed to support the federation model, such as multilateral metadata, SAML extensions such as entity attributes, and support for multiple keys per entity in metadata to support key rollover.

The session will also provide an update on the work being done within the InCommon community to support international interfederation using the eduGAIN service from G√ČANT. An overview of the policy and trust changes to InCommon which are needed to support interfederation, as well as the technical changes that will be put into place by InCommon operations, will be provided. The impact of those changes on Identity Provider and Service Provider operators and their services will also be discussed.
