Implementing Security at Terabit Speed: Defending the GÉANT Network Against Denial of Service
Time 10/07/15 08:00AM-08:50AM
Room Grand Ballroom A
Session Abstract
Security in today’s networks is challenging, expand that to an environment that by its very nature is open, carries terabits of data and connects 50 million of end users throughout Europe every day. GÉANT is the pan-European research and education network that interconnects Europe’s National Research and Education Networks. In this session we will demonstrate the challenges we have faced, the cutting edge solutions we have implanted in order to protect the GÉANT network into the future beyond current 100 GB capacities. From Firewall on Demand the next generation of protecting against (D)DoS, to dynamic vulnerability assessments across the whole of Europe, coupled with active rogue device checks to report on attempted access to the equipment as well as foreign devices being plugged into the network. Protecting the GÉANT network from threats at all layers of the stack is a challenge and this presentation will deliver solutions, approaches and technologies to demonstrate how we protect Europe’s research and education backbone network.
