Evaluating Network Buffer Size Requirements for Very Large Data Transfers

Time 10/05/15 11:50AM-12:10PM

Room Room 26-BC

Session Abstract

Modern science projects are being designed to make heavy use of network resources on a global scale. The international nature of scientific collaboration may require that many terabytes of experimental data cross the internet to reach universities, institutions and research centers around the world. Network operators and computer scientists in the R&E
environment have found that these high-bandwidth, high-latency data transfers are very sensitive to packet loss and benefit from properly tuned network device buffer sizes. This has led to the development of methods for testing network buffer capabilities and requirements using free, open source and readily available tools.
