ENOS: A Network Operating System for ESnet Testbed

Time 10/06/15 02:40PM-03:00PM

Room Grand Ballroom A

Session Abstract

ESnet is exploring Software Defined Network (SDN) concepts for its next generation network. Following up on past years work, we are building an international SDN testbed designed to experiment and research of various aspects of what would be a production R&E SDN-based network. Focus area includes security, scalability, and automation at all networking layers. In particular, while protocols such as OpenFlow are considered for programming the lower layers (2 and 3), ENOS includes all components that are needed for automating complex network provisioning and optimization. This talk will describe the current state of ESnet testbed, both from hardware and software perspective, the challenges and discuss about future research domains. The talk will also present an early implementation of a new network service, a mult-ipoint VPN with traffic steering that is deployed as an overlay of ESnet production network.
