Advanced SDN networks architectures have at their core a need for flexible and responsive forwarding behavior. Whether at 100G, 40G, or 10G, different applications need to tweak standard forwarding behaviors for different purposes. And regardless of the application and its architecture, almost no one can afford to discard all existing network protocols and invent brand new SDN based forwarding behavior; they want to incrementally add SDN to their networks in some form or another.
This implies a need for hybrid behavior from SDN data planes, however it does not imply hybrid hardware. In this session, we will show you how networks can be incrementally built out using pure play OpenFlow SDN hardware that co-exists with existing architectures, protocols and equipment.
For network architects, researchers, operators and others involved in next generation networks, we will outline specific attributes of OpenFlow data planes that are needed, especially at internet scale. We will delve into real use cases and 100G SDN WAN connectivity.
