Network Operating Systems and Intent APIs for SDN Applications

Time 10/06/15 02:20PM-02:40PM

Room Grand Ballroom A

Session Abstract

This talk will motivate the rationale and the approach being used to develop a set of software capabilities that complement the existing SDN controllers. This software layer, called ESnet Operating System (ENOS), provides capabilities for network operators to compose services and to offer capabilities for composition and customization of the network to multiple customer applications. This talk also discusses the work being done on defining Intent interfaces for applications to the network, and describes few examples of Intent implemented in ENOS. The presenter will also explain other approaches like Group-Based Policy, ONOS Intents and others that are being implmented in parallel. Finally, the talk will discuss how these concepts are going to be prototyped on ESnet’s new 100G SDN testbed, and available for application developers.
