John S. Morabito is the Vice President for External Relations, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary of Internet2. In this role, he advises the Board of Trustees, CEO, and executive leadership team on matters relating to legal services, risk mitigation, compliance, public policy, government relations, and other activities involving the research and education community. In addition, he is responsible for leading Internet2’s Community Anchor Program, which is designed to support the advanced networking needs of community anchor institutions throughout the United States.
Mr. Morabito has more than 25 years of experience in communications and information technology. Prior to joining Internet2, Mr. Morabito served as the Deputy Associate Administrator in the Office of Policy Analysis and Development within the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) of the Department of Commerce. As a career member of the Senior Executive Service, he helped the Administration develop domestic public policies on telecommunications and information matters. Mr. Morabito joined NTIA in 2009 to serve as the Senior Policy Advisor for the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program.
Mr. Morabito also has served as Vice President of Government Affairs for Comcast Corporation, Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Qwest Communications, Vice President of Federal Affairs for Frontier Corporation, Committee Counsel for the United States House of Representatives Committee on Commerce, and Deputy Division Chief of several divisions in the Common Carrier Bureau at the Federal Communications Commission.
Mr. Morabito received a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law and a B.A. from Vassar College. As part of his undergraduate studies, he attended the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is a member of the New York, Maryland, District of Columbia, and Connecticut bars and admitted to practice law before the United States Supreme Court. He also is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys and Federal Communications Bar Association.
