Session Abstract
How much data did research and education institutions in the U.S. move over the Internet2 Network last month? Turns out it's a lot - as in 62 Petabytes a lot—to no surprise—over 60% of that traffic was devoted to scientific research activities and grid computing. The 62 PB total is equivalent to transmitting all the books in the Library of Congress back and forth 3,200 times. Streaming 11 million feature-length movies (in HD!). Downloading 19 billion digital songs. Tweeting 340 trillion tweets. You get the idea. A lot.
Catch this session as Grover and Robin demonstrate:
- The substantial growth of Internet2 Advanced Layer 2 Service and the exciting research happening across the community utilizing it;
- How the insights behind the network traffic record are also at members fingertips with the Deepfield Analytics service, and;
- Crowning of the winner of the Apple Gift Card who correctly guessed which Internet2 NET+ service generated the most traffic during the record-breaking month as calculated by Deepfield.
- See details of the record-breaking month traffic breakdown and contest details in this blog post.
