Open Daylight is an open source consortium formed under the auspice of the Linux Foundation with the goal of accelerating the adoption of SDN in the industry. Real world networks are heterogeneous with equipment of different capabilities from different vendors. Hence an approach limited to a single protocol (southbound to the Controller) like OpenFlow is too restrictive. Central to Open Daylight is a multi-protocol controller capable of supporting diverse equipment with different capabilities from a multitude of vendors. This presentation gives an overview of the Open Daylight Consortium, a technical overview of the various projects under it, and a call to action for active participation in this Open Source effort in SDN.
