Session Abstract

This session will discuss the governance processes, technology infrastructure, and support structure needed to support federated identity management. The speakers will call on their experience with building the statewide identity federation for the University of Wisconsin system to provide concrete examples. They will also discuss how the University of Wisconsin system leverages federation technologies to provide cross-campus administrative and academic applications to each of its 13 campuses.

This presentation will cover the organizational challenges in forming and operating a multi-campus identity federation including issues of data ownership and governance, technical operations, application integration and contracting with cloud service providers. The presentation will describe the governance processes, technology infrastructure and support structures for supporting multi-campus applications in a distributed environment, and will identify key operating principles and practices that enable the Wisconsin Identity Federation to leverage campus infrastructure to serve System-wide applications.
