Life Science Informatics: Trends From the Trenches
Time 10/28/14 01:30PM-02:15PM
Bioinformaticist-gone-bad Chris Dagdigian has spent the last 15 years as a high performance research IT specialist focusing on building, fixing, growing and optimizing IT systems designed to support & empower life science research. As a consultant, Chris gets to see how different organizations (Pharma, Biotech, Government, Academic and Non-profit) approach similar problems and he can relay war stories, trends, trips and tricks as seen directly from the trenches.
This session will focus on the complex data, compute and network needs of discovery-oriented life science organizations in the era where simple laboratory instruments now produce terabyte volumes of data per experiment.
The presentation will address current requirements, trends, pain points and best practices for life science informatics including compute, storage, data movement/management and public infrastructure clouds such as Amazon Web Services (AWS). Case studies from recent cloud deployments and early Science DMZ experiments within pharmaceutical and biotech will be covered
