Case Studies in Identity Management for Scientific Collaboration
Time 10/30/14 09:15AM-10:00AM
Session Abstract
This session will present multiple perspectives on identity management for scientific collaborations. Topics will include user registration, attributes, authorization, groups, error handling, incident response, and levels of assurance. Aspects of scientific collaborations that make use of federated identities particularly challenging, including international collaborations and non-browser applications, will be covered.
Von Welch (Indiana University) will present the XSIM (http://cacr.iu.edu/collab-idm) model for virtual organization identity management, which surveys current identity management implementations in scientific collaborations and provides guidance for new scientific collaborations. Jim Basney (University of Illinois) will present an update on CILogon (https://cilogon.org/), an InCommon research and scholarship service provider that supports federated access to DataONE, Globus, OOI, OSG, XSEDE, and other cyberinfrastructure. Tom Mitchell (BBN) will discuss use of federated identities to support research in networking, distributed systems, security, and novel applications in GENI (http://www.geni.net/)
