Session Abstract

This session will provide a broad but thorough overview of the status of the European Research and Education Network, GÉANT, and how continued collaboration between GÉANT and its North American partners (Internet2, ESnet, CANARIE) provides a stable platform to support European-North American collaboration. Presentations will cover three main areas: Network; Services; Use Cases.

The Network presentation will describe the GÉANT network, its connectivity to the US, and the connectivity services available between the two regions. The presentation will also include an overview of the EC-funded regional network projects in other world regions managed by DANTE (e.g. Central Asia, North Africa & the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa).

The Services section will describe the added value Services offered in Europe by the GÉANT project (e.g. network performance monitoring, eduroam, eduGAIN, cloud services, etc.) with an emphasis on areas where there is collaboration between North America and Europe on service implementation and interoperability.

The session will be completed with an overview of transatlantic collaborations, demonstrating how connectivity within and between Europe and North America and added value services implemented across the two regions, enable interregional collaboration in areas including HEP, astronomy, health, education, etc.
