Network Performance Overview for Scientific Networking

Time 07/18/13 02:35PM-02:50PM

Session Abstract

Collaboration and innovation are pushing network use cases to limits not seen before in many scientific disciplines. A common tie that binds these diverse scientific projects is a reliance on stable and efficient network technologies, and the desire to keep things working at all times. Ensuring network performance is a challenging activity for operational staff, and possibly a frustrating experience for end users that just want to accomplish work with as few complications as possible. This talk will present a high level overview of network performance realities, and introduce some technical concepts geared toward researchers and operations staff. It will touch on network architecture, performance monitoring software, and experiences that highlight the positive, and negative, aspects of network use.
