Enhancing Infrastructure for Data Intensive Science

Time 04/25/12 10:30AM-11:45AM

Session Abstract

We will discuss the highlights from an all-day focus area on the emerging requirements of data-intensive science. This event was part of the recent Internet2/ESSC Joint Techs Workshop in Baton Rouge this past January. We also will present a community white paper that is being developed to capture the key conclusions and lessons learned at this event. A particular focus is the development of refined business cases to present to senior executives for renewed infrastructure investment in support of the campus research enterprise. We will discuss compelling requirements identified in genomics, atmospheric sciences, and the new NSF XSEDE project. We also will highlight several strategies that campuses and national laboratories are implementing to support computationally intensive and data driven research. We hope that this session will be of interest to the broad community
