Quantum Leap in Open Source Collaboration and Identity Management Products
Time 04/25/12 01:15PM-02:30PM
We believe that researchers and educators should be able to combine, share and use their research data, services, and resources. In this session we will present the progress we made on getting access to grid-style resources and cloud-style services and the gaps that need to be filled at campuses to support this vision. Kuali, Jasig, Internet2, and other communities have produced valuable, widely deployed, even transformational Identity Management related software and services. Yet these do not span the range of Identity Management needs of most campuses, leaving them to choose between substantial home-grown effort in this critical operational area or investing heavily in a commercial suite. With support from the organizations above, a new community-based effort has taken shape that's aimed to put a third option on the table: off the shelf open source that meets campus Identity Management and Collaboration needs; in essence these are the building blocks for the creation of virtual collaborations, allowing groups of users to collaborate, share data, services and resources, even across administrative domains.
