Jim Bottum

ORG Clemson University Title CIO and Vice Provost for Computing and IT, Internet2 Presidential Fellow BIO James R. "Jim" Bottum was named Vice Provost and Chief Information Officer for Computing and Information Technology at Clemson University in July 2006. He leads Clemson's efforts to build a state-of-the-art cyberinfrastructure for education, research and service. These efforts have resulted in Clemson becoming a Top 100 supercomputing site in the world, linking Clemson to the national research infrastructure through a privately gifted optical fiber network, and bridging academia and IT staff together on innovative initiatives. Before coming to Clemson University, Bottum was Purdue University's first CIO beginning in August of 2001. Prior to arriving at Purdue, Bottum was the Executive Director for the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He serves on several national committees and was recently named Internet2's Inaugural Presidential Fellow, working with Internet2's executive leadership team on the adoption of the Internet2 Innovation Platform, development of new technologies, and outreach to the research community, including university administrators, CIOs, regional networks, government agencies, GENI Project Office, and national laboratories. In addition, he helps obtain grants for the support and development of programs aligned with Internet2's strategic principles as directed by the community.
