From Philadelphia to Philadelphia: The Journey of African Research and Education Networking (2005
Time 10/04/12 08:45AM-10:00AM
At the 2005 Internet2 Fall Member Meeting held in Philadelphia, several stakeholders of the African Higher Education and Research Community were invited to attend the meeting and to share views on how to promote research and education networking in Africa.
Since then, several national research and education networks have been established on the continent. Moreover, with the incorporation of the UbuntuNet Alliance for Research and Education Networking (UA) in 2005, the West and Central African Research and Education Network (WACREN) in 2010 and the Arab States Research and Education Network in 2011, all African countries are covered by at least one regional REN. The AfREN Forum and the UbuntuNet Connect Conference have also become well-attended annual rendez-vous for community building and experience sharing among African REN stakeholders as well as between them and their counterparts around the world.
The objective of this session is to review the progress made since Philadelphia 2005, assess challenges, share experiences and explore ways of strengthening collaboration between African RENs and their counterparts around the world.
