Web10G: Meeting the Promises of Web100

Time 07/18/12 09:10AM-09:30AM

This livestream has concluded. The archive video will be posted here. Archives can take up to two weeks to be posted.

Session Abstract

Web10G is the NSF funded follow on to Web100, the well known kernel level TCP instrumentation set used in NPAD, NDT, and other diagnostic tools. Web10G expands on Web100 by dramatically simplifying the API; providing a far more efficient interface to the TCP stack; and full RFC 4898 compliance. Our goal is to provide an extension to the Linux kernel, implementing RFC4898, and end-user tools for monitoring the TCP extended statistics. In this talk we will present an alpha version of the kernel instrument set patch, a dynamically loadable kernel module for kernel-userspace communication, and an intuitive userland API. We will discuss the ongoing work and outline our future direction. We will also encourage the community to think about new applications that can build on real time, per-connection, detailed TCP stack metrics.
