Experiences Building Multivendor OpenFlow Networks

Time 01/25/12 10:30AM-10:47AM

Session Abstract

This session will discuss IU's experience with building and running 2 multivendor Openflow demo networks. IU partnered with Stanford and many Openflow hardware vendors to build and run the OpenFlow Interoperability Lab at Interop Las Vegas 2011. Switches from 14 vendors were controlled by at least 6 controllers through a Network Hypervisor (Flowvisor) enabling many simultaneous demos. For SC11, IU led the effort to build the Openflow portion of the SCinet Research Sandbox which consisted of 5 switches from 4 vendors and 8 experimental demos each controlling their own slice of the network through Flowvisor. The SRS network also connected with external Openflow and legacy networks to allow experimentors to extend their demos across the country to their own institutions.
