Philosophical Reflections on Network Security

Time 04/19/11 08:45AM-10:00AM

Session Abstract

This session will reflect on current network security models (e.g., VPNs and firewalls) and suggest that they will not apply to future computing models, especially in cloud computing environments. It will be argued that new models must be sought and will describe what these models should look like and how they should relate to higher education environments. Finally, it will explore ways that existing initiatives in Internet2, specifically middleware initiatives, might be leveraged to move us toward a new network security paradigm. This talk will not require in-depth technical knowledge and will be of interest to engineers concerned with network architecture up through CIOs.
