Getting to a Full-spectrum Open Source Identity and Access Management Solution

Time 10/05/11 08:30AM-09:45AM

Session Abstract

A number of higher education organizations have begun working together on an OSIdM4HE Initiative ( ). The goal is to provide a coherent set of open-source Identity and Access Management (IAM) software packages. Areas of special attention include person registries, provisioning engines and access management packages. The effort recognizes that IDM requirements have evolved considerably in recent years (e.g. campuses are tracking new communities -- applicants, alumns, parents, etc; a requirement to track various information in order to support higher Levels of Assurance; a need for real-time integration; etc). In addition, modern IDM systems expect to leverage other campus middleware systems (eg Workflow, Message Buses, etc). Representatives of the OSIdM4HE effort will open this session with a description of the vision, plan and proposed timeline. Following that introduction, a number of campus representatives will offer lightning talks on their institution's implementation of some of these new services and components.
