LOLA (Low Latency audio/video): real time musical interaction at long distance over advanced networks
Time 10/04/11 04:30PM-05:30PM
Session Abstract
LOLA is the system developed by Conservatorio G. Tartini in Trieste (Italy) together with GARR to enable real time simultaneous musical performances across long distances over advanced research and education networks. LOLA has been demonstrated already in 2 concerts (Paris-Trieste: piano duo playing Bacha & Reger / Barcelona-Trieste: violin duo playing Bartok, at more then 3000km). Some Internet2 institutions are starting to use LOLA, too, like the NIU school of music, the NWS in Miami, and Stanford University. LOLA requires a "perfect, non jittering and fast" network service, a paradigm which is the highest challenge for Internet2 and other advanced networks, imposing new ideas on network design, configuration and services.
