Sea to Shining Sea: Educational Outreach by our National Park Service
Time 10/04/11 01:15PM-02:30PM
Session Abstract
Bring the remote beauty of our National Parks live to your classroom! This curriculum-based education outreach program developed by several NPS sites across
the country connects directly to your classroom computer using Skype. Although it does not currently use Internet2 resources, it is an excellent example of how this type of
program could be expanded through access to R&E networks ensuring high-quality connections. Building upon lessons learned from the National Science Foundation funded High Performance Wireless Research and Education Network (HPWREN) Live Interactive Virtual Explorations (LIVE) pilot project, the Sea to Shining Sea (StSS) project is expanding concepts from the southern California-based work to several National Parks. Specifically, the StSS team is working closely with HPWREN researchers on perfecting the development and implementation of a LIVE backpack for use between education sites at various NPS locations across the U.S.
